A 34-year-old Hammond man died in a single-vehicle crash on La. 1065 in Tangipahoa Parish Saturday night, State Police said.
David Neal Giacone, 34, of Hammond, was driving a Ford F-150 south on La. 1065 around 8 p.m. Saturday, Trooper Dustin Dwight said.
Giacone’s vehicle veered off the right side of the road, and he overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to spin counter-clockwise as it moved into the northbound lanes and off the left side of the roadway, Dwight said.
The truck ran into a ditch, overturned and crashed into a tree, Dwight said.
Giacone was not wearing a seat belt, Dwight said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
Troopers are still working to determine what caused the wreck, Dwight said.
Blood samples from Giacone will be sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, though Dwight didn’t say whether impairment is suspected to have played a role.
