Two Baton Rouge women are accused of repeatedly beating a 9-year-old boy until he was bleeding, bruised and had two black eyes.
The victim’s mother, Ashley Newton, 26, and her partner, Kolbi Joseph, 19, were booked Thursday into Parish Prison on counts of cruelty to a juvenile.
The victim went to a neighbor’s house Wednesday evening covered in cuts and welts after Newton and Joseph punched and beat him with a stick, according to the arrest report.
When the neighbor returned the victim to his house Wednesday evening, he saw Newton punch the boy, kick him in the groin, shove him into a gutter, slam his head in a door and beat him with a pipe, investigators said.
The victim went back to the neighbor’s house with two black eyes about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, the report says.
Newton realized the boy was missing and contacted he East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office about 11:25 a.m., the report says.
A judge set Newton’s bail at $52,110 and Joseph’s bail at $35,000, booking records show.
