A woman was shot and killed in a domestic incident in the 8300 block of Amy Drive on Friday and her husband was arrested later in the day, East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said.
East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark identified the woman as Luise G. Garcia, 27.
A bartender, Garcia left behind two children, an 11-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, said her friend Mayra Salinas .
Garcia lived in a ground-floor apartment of a two-story building on Amy Drive with her husband and children, Salinas said.
The husband, Juan Angel Delarca Martinez, 27, was booked late Friday on second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, Hicks said.
The shooting was called in about 11 a.m. by a boy of about 11 years, Hicks said. Child services was contacted for youth at the scene.
Investigators trudged in and out of the apartment as late as 3:30 p.m., cordoning off the two-building block.
The complex is surrounded by nearly identical buildings, some boarded shut.
Small stacks of tires and children’s toys had been set on the grass just outside the residence.
“I don’t know any of my neighbors, and that’s what keeps me safe,” said a woman who lives nearby who declined to be named.
Salinas, speaking in a mixture of Spanish and English, said Garcia was a “very happy” woman.
She showed on her phone a tribute shared on social media in honor of Garcia, with a message in Spanish: “My soul mourns for your passing.”
