A dog was found dead inside a home on Capital Heights Avenue after a blaze destroyed the house Wednesday morning, said Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte.

Fire was burning through the roof of the house at 4054 Capital Heights Ave. when firefighters arrived around 6:30 a.m., Monte said. They were able to control the fire before it spread to nearby homes.

The resident was not home at the time of the fire. Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the flames, but they do not suspect foul play.
