As children played in a park just a few blocks away Friday, detectives worked the scene of a fatal shooting in a neighborhood north of the LSU campus.

Roderick Carolina, 34, 2720 Alaska St., Apt. 62, was found dead about 3:30 p.m. in his apartment near Alaska and West Grant streets, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III was at the scene, but he provided few details on the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation.

“You hate to go from one murder to another,” Moore said. “Our goal is to get people to stop killing each other.”

The victim’s family members were at the scene but declined to comment.
