A fire cooked a food truck Thursday afternoon in Baton Rouge, burning up the barbecue joint within minutes.
Earl’s Express, a food truck off Plank Road north of Hollywood Street, caught fire shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday after the truck’s operator lit a charcoal-fired barbecue pit and walked out of the vehicle, said Curt Monte, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.
By the time firefighters arrived, about six minutes after the blaze was reported, the food truck was on fire, Monte said.
The grill was a barrel barbecue pit, Monte said, and the food truck didn’t appear to have a ventilation system. Monte said it’s illegal to burn a charcoal grill indoors.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within about 10 minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to any other structures or vehicles, Monte said.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
