Robber in slippers takes bag, police say

A 24-year-old man was arrested Friday, accused of robbing a woman of her purse at gunpoint in a parking lot at Baton Rouge Community College, an arrest warrant says.

Jeremy Darnell Williams approached the woman at 1:45 p.m. on July 14 after she got out of her vehicle at 201 Community College Drive, the warrant says.

Williams demanded the woman’s purse and when she refused, he pointed a gun at her and demanded it again, the warrant says.

He grabbed her purse and fled, leaving his slippers behind and dropping things from inside the handbag, the warrant says.

Williams, 999 Rosenwald Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on a count of armed robbery.

Police arrest man in razor blade attack

A 24-year-old man was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to kill another man with a razor blade, an affidavit of probable cause says.

Roosevelt Twan Bell used a razor blade to slash a man’s throat, barely missing the jugular vein, just after midnight Saturday at 1314 Julia St., the affidavit says.

Bell, 661 N. 29th St., was booked into Parish Prison on a count of attempted second-degree murder.

Murder suspect, 26, surrenders to police

A 26-year-old man accused of killing a man Thursday night on Main Street surrendered to police on Saturday, according to a news release.

Frank Atkins, 2025 Bay St., told authorities he shot and killed Bernard Lands, 51, at 9:30 p.m. Thursday as Lands sat on his porch, said Cpl.

L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman.

Atkins was booked into Parish Prison on one count of second-degree murder.

Authorities arrest 4 suspected of DWI

Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

•?Wesley Davis, 45, 1616 S. Elaine Drive, second-offense DWI, improper lane usage, driving with a suspended/revoked license and intentionally littering.

•?Andrew Hausey, 40, 5350 Groom Road, Apt. 24, Baker, second-offense DWI, improper lane usage and license plate light required.

•?Jason Collins, 22, 9 Begonia Drive, Covington, first-offense DWI and equipment violation.

•?Jonathan Peirce, 28, 9032 Lilt Place, first-offense DWI, drinking in a motor vehicle and improper lane usage.
