A 25-year-old man was taken into custody after he barricaded himself in a 16th Street home Tuesday morning to escape arrest on a count of simple burglary, police reported.

Baton Rouge police were attempting arrest Alvin Anderson Tuesday morning around 7:45 a.m. at his home, but he locked the door and refused to come out, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

The department’s Special Response Team and Anderson were in a standoff for about two hours before a negotiator was able to talk Anderson into coming down out of the attic where he was hiding, McKneely said.

Anderson had no firearm, but McKneely said the Special Response Team was called out as a caution.

“Anytime anyone barricades, you never know what you’re dealing with,” McKneely said. “This one turned out all right.”

Anderson, 1626 N. 16th Street, will be booked into Parish Prison on simple burglary, though McKneely said other charges could be added as a result of the standoff.
