Two people were sent to a hospital from a Race for the Cure walk near LSU on Saturday morning after a person had a medical issue at the wheel and drove into the crowd.

One race participant was hit by the vehicle and suffered moderate injuries.

The driver, who wasn't affiliated with the race, suffered from a medical condition while waiting to cross the street near West Lakeshore Drive and East Parker Boulevard, said Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The driver has been identified as the second person hospitalized.
