A house fire spread Tuesday morning to two more houses on East Johnson Street, leaving one vacant home destroyed and two other occupied houses damaged but no one injured.

By the time Baton Rouge firefighters arrived at the vacant home at 812 E. Johnson St., at about 10:35 a.m., they were too late to save that structure, and the flames had already spread to the house next door at 814 E. Johnson St., said Mark Miles, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters worked to douse the flames on that house as embers spread to a third home, setting fire to the back porch of the house at 760 E. Johnson St., Miles said. That porch fire was quickly extinguished.

About 15 minutes after first arriving, firefighters gave the all clear, Miles said.

Seven people were in the second two houses that caught fire, but no one was injured, Miles said. Damage i s estimated at $40,000 to the house at 814 E. Johnson St.
