A 9-year-old Baton Rouge boy remains hospitalized after being accidentally shot in the head by a pellet gun while playing with a younger cousin on Friday afternoon.

The boy has undergone multiple surgeries to remove the pellet, which penetrated his brain, and is expected to live. The boy’s mother, Andrea Carr, said her son had been outside playing with a 7-year-old cousin when the pair found a pellet gun that had been left out.

Baton Rogue police confirmed that the child was shot in an accident.
