A train crashed Monday morning into a white Honda Accord on North Ardenwood Drive just south of Choctaw Drive, Baton Rouge police said.
The car’s three occupants fled the scene following the crash, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a police spokesman, but they later returned and met with police.
The passengers did not suffer any injuries in the crash, Coppola said, and the train did not derail from the tracks.
The crash, which happened about 10 a.m. in the 2500 block of North Ardenwood Drive, left the Honda with minor-to-moderate damage on its front bumper, Coppola said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. The railroad crossing’s red lights, which are attached to large metal poles on both sides of the crossing, were functioning at the time of the crash, Coppola said.
“Multiple citations will be issued,” Coppola said.
It was not immediately clear what the train was carrying. However, Coppola said it did not appear a hazardous materials crew had been called to the site. It also was not immediately clear whether the crash led to any road closures in the area.
