A 25-year-old man was found dead Thursday in his overturned vehicle in northern East Baton Rouge after he ran off the right side of US 61 north of La. 64, Louisiana State Police say.
Louisiana State Police Troop A began an investigation into the single-vehicle crash after a state Department of Transportation and Development worker found a man dead in a 2004 Cadillac CTS, First Class Trooper Bryan Lee said in a news release. The victim was later identified as Michael Hains, of St. Francisville.
After Hains ran off the road, Lee said, the Cadillac continued into a wooded area and came to rest upside down partially submerged in a canal.
Hains was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries, Lee said. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene, Lee said. Police suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, and toxicology test will be conducted by the Coroner’s Office, the release says.
