Police are looking for a man in the rape of a 16-year-old girl at a Baton Rouge hotel.
Damien Thompson, 35, faces a count of second-degree rape in an assault on a girl who said he’s a total stranger who followed her into her room at the Embassy Suites at 4914 Constitution on May 2, according to a Baton Rouge Police arrest warrant issued in June.
Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, said Thursday police are seeking tips from the public about Thompson’s whereabouts.
The girl told authorities that she was babysitting her 8-year-old niece at the hotel while her sister and brother-in-law attended a wedding, according to the warrant. She said she only left the room to go to the vending machine and briefly stood outside to talk on her cellphone while her niece was in the bath, the document said.
While the girl was still on the phone and re-entering her room, Thompson followed her inside and ordered her to lay down, according to the warrant. The teenager said she was raped but didn’t scream because she didn’t want to endanger her niece, the document stated.
The niece corroborated her aunt’s account about only leaving the room for the vending machine, according to the warrant.
A DNA test matched Thompson to evidence from a rape kit performed on the 16-year-old girl, and she identified Thompson in a lineup, the document said.
Anyone with information about Thompson, of the 4700 block of Earl Gros Avenue, may contact the Baton Rouge Police Special Victims Unit at (225) 389-3853.
