A 13-year-old from Franklinton drowned Tuesday night while swimming in Gray's Creek, said Port Vincent Police Chief Matthew Allen.

Jarrett Varnado drowned after he disappeared below the water's surface near 18680 Guitreau Lane, in Port Vincent, Allen said. Authorities were able to recover his body and he was pronounced dead by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office.

No foul play is suspected, but Port Vincent police continue to investigate the incident, Allen said.

Port Vincent police were assisted in the investigation by the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, District 4 Fire Department, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and Acadian Ambulance Service, Allen said.
