An early morning fire Saturday destroyed a home and a car, but caused no injuries, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.
The blaze at 6049 Monarch Ave., left an estimated $275,000 in damage, Fire Department spokesman Barry Mounce said in a news release.
When firefighters arrived at the home about 2:10 a.m., the fire had engulfed the house and flames were shooting through the roof, the release says.
The fire spread to the carport, and destroyed a late model sedan, the release says.
The fire caused the outside vinyl siding on the house next door to melt, the release says. Though minor, that damage is included in the overall loss estimate of $275,000, Mounce said.
Firefighters controlled the fire by about 3 a.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Mounce's release says.
