A 27-year-old man was arrested on weapons’ charges Tuesday after a man was fatally shot on Helm Drive, an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
Fredrick Rady, 27, 1950 Helm Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegal use of a weapon, Casey Rayborn Hicks said. Rady could be booked on additional counts.
Rady was at home early Tuesday when he opened the door to two men, one of whom opened fire, Hicks said.
Rady, who was shot in the leg, returned fire, hitting the man who later died, Hicks said.
Deputies identified the victim as Nathan Holmes, 23, 7801 May Blvd., New Orleans, Hicks said.
The other man standing in the doorway ran away.
A third man drove off in a vehicle, Hicks said.
Detectives have not found the two men who fled.
The motive for the shootings is unclear and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Man arrested in cousin’s shooting
Police arrested a 19-year-old man Monday in his alleged involvement in a shooting that left his cousin with a gunshot wound to the head, a police spokesman said.
Police were contacted at about 5:45 p.m. Monday about shots fired at an apartment complex at 4343 Denham St., Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
When police arrived they found Willie Pounds and his cousin across the street behind the Rite Aid at 5800 Plank Road, McKneely said.
Pounds’ 18-year-old cousin was suffering a gunshot wound to the head, McKneely said. He was taken to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.
Police arrested Pounds after finding a revolver in his backpack, McKneely said. Investigators say they believe Pounds might have fired the gun at the people who shot his cousin.
Pounds, 3724 Cannon Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of illegal use of a dangerous weapon, simple criminal damage to property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with a firearm, possession of stolen firearm, convicted felon in possession of a stolen firearm and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
Investigators are still looking for those responsible for shooting Pounds’ cousin.

Man, 29, arrested in Sunday rape
A 29-year-old man was arrested Monday, accused of raping a woman Sunday in her home, an affidavit of probable cause said.
Trevor Colby Gause and the victim were friends and had gone to dinner the night of the alleged attack, the affidavit says. The pair was watching television together at the victim’s home when Gause forced himself on her, the affidavit said.
The victim told Gause no and to stop several times, the affidavit says. Gause admitted to investigators that he ignored the woman’s demands.
Gause, 6630 Siegen Lane, Apt. 175, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of forcible rape.
Man arrested in child cruelty case
A 28-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, accused of striking a 5-year-old boy with a belt, an affidavit of probable cause says.
Chad Michael Bursh beat the boy Thursday at a Baton Rouge residence in an attempt to discipline him for bad behavior, the affidavit says.
The boy had bruises on his chest, shoulders and back, the affidavit says.
Bursh, 2126 Diana St., Terrytown, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of cruelty to juveniles.
Authorities arrest 1 on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least one person suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking records show.
Leroy Duncan, 62, 1116 Seville St., Baker, was booked into Parish Prison on one count of first-offense DWI.
