A Prairieville man died early Saturday after his car struck a bridge railing and plunged into a bayou in LaSalle Parish in central Louisiana, State Police said.

Joshua Proffer, 28, died after the Ford Fusion he was traveling in crossed the center line of La. 500 near U.S. 84 about 2:45 a.m., Master Trooper Scott Moreau said in a news release.

Proffer was not wearing a seat belt, Moreau said. It is not yet clear if Proffer was the driver, but he is the only occupant of the vehicle who’s been located, Moreau said.

The investigation is ongoing, and toxicology test results are pending, Moreau said.
