A 12th grader from Woodlawn High was arrested Friday and accused of repeatedly hitting her school bus driver, an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
Deputies were called at 6:20 a.m. to 10000 Burbank Blvd. in reference to the battery of a school bus driver, Casey Rayborn Hicks said.
When deputies arrived, they discovered that Shanetra Daniels, 18, 8322 Ned Ave., had become upset with the driver, cursed her out and then hit the driver several times when she told the student she would write her up if she didn’t behave, Hicks said.
At one point during the attack, Daniels hit the driver from behind, knocking her glasses off, causing her to slam on the brakes of the bus, Hicks said.
Daniels fell and hit the front windshield, breaking it, Hicks said. She then got up and hit the driver repeatedly.
Other students pulled Daniels off the driver, Hicks said. Daniels and the driver were treated on scene for minor abrasions.
Daniels was booked into Parish Prison on a count of battery of a school teacher, said Hicks.
