Baton Rouge police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man accused of shooting a man in the chest last week.

The victim was standing outside his home on Callahan Street, near the intersection of Greenwell Springs Road and North Lobdell Avenue, when Raynard O’Conner walked up and shot him once in the chest, according to an arrest warrant.

Police said O’Conner dropped a loaded 30-round rifle magazine as he ran from the scene. The victim, who survived the shooting, underwent several surgeries for serious internal damage, the warrant says. Authorities said numerous Crime Stopper tips led them to O’Conner.

O’Conner, 1956 Augustus St., Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
