A 6-year-old girl told investigators her mother's live-in boyfriend whipped her baby brother with a belt three times Tuesday in order to stop him from crying, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's report.
Officials say the accused man, 27-year-old Darius Hasbert, had been watching the kids while their mother was at work that day.
Later that night, the mother noticed a mark on the 8-month-old boy's face and a scratch under his eye while giving him a bath, but when she asked Hasbert about it, he became defensive and angry, the report says.
Investigators say the mother asked her daughter about it, who told her Hasbert whipped the boy for crying. Medical staff at the hospital noticed several red marks on the back of the baby's legs and a bruise on his outer thigh.
When questioned by officials, Hasbert said he had nothing to say because "what happened, happened, and there is nothing I can say to change anything," according to the report
Hasbert, of 9001 Cedar Court, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on cruelty to juveniles.
