Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found in a vehicle at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to a police news release.

James Owens, 40, 21475 Samuels Road, Zachary, was found in a vehicle at North 26th Street and Florida Boulevard, the release said.

Police did not have a description of the shooter or a possible motive.

Body of woman, 57, found after blaze

Police say a body discovered by firefighters on the floor of a vacant building is that of Sharon Bayne, 57, 12643 Conwood St., according to a news release.

Investigators believe Bayne may have started the fire at 2063 Dallas Drive and was unable to escape before she became incapacitated, the news release said.

The incident is still under investigation pending autopsy results, the news release said.

The fire was called in at 11:20 p.m., according to a Fire Department news release.

The blaze was under control by 1:43 a.m.

Once the fire was under control, firefighters went into the building through the front door on the east side and found the body of a woman, the news release said.

BR man, 27, slain in Drusilla stabbing

A 27-year-old man died Wednesday after he was stabbed multiple times on Drusilla Lane, according to a police news release.

Harold Lopez, 30, 2256 Drusilla Lane, allegedly stabbed Kentrell Osby, of the same address, several times in the chest about 7:30 a.m. in the courtyard of their apartment building, the news release said.

The motive for the stabbing is not clear, the release said.

Lopez remained at the scene and was arrested when police arrived, the release said.

Lopez was booked into Parish Prison on one count of second-degree murder.

Police: Grocery clerk shot during robbery

A store clerk at Sewel & Son Grocery on Scotland Avenue was shot Wednesday during an armed robbery at the store, a police spokesman said.

The clerk suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, police spokesman Sgt. Donald Stone said.

The robbery happened about 4 p.m. at the store at 8418 Scotland Ave., Stone said.

A man entered the store, shot the clerk and took an undetermined amount of money before fleeing.

Barber shop shooting results in man’s arrest

A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for shooting several bullets into a local barber shop in an attempt to hit one of the employees, a police spokesman said.

The victim told police he was cutting a customer’s hair at the shop at 1416 N. Acadian Thruway on July 16 when he saw Clayton Lazarious drive up in front of the shop, said Sgt. Donald Stone, police spokesman.

Stone said Lazarious then started shooting through the shop’s front window, firing multiple times toward the victim and at least one customer who was in the shop.

No one was hit, and Lazarious fled in a car, Stone said.

The victim told police he has an ongoing feud with Lazarious, Stone said.

Lazarious, 1961 Southpointe Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on one count of attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities book 2 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Ashlea Hood, 20, 10662 Stone Pine Drive, Greenwell Springs, first-offense DWI, disobeying a control device and license plate required.

• Jonathan Stanley, 22, 1443 Brightside Drive, first-offense DWI, stop sign or yield sign violation and reckless operation of a vehicle.
