Baton Rouge police are investigating allegations of racially charged texts in the department.
Cpl. Don Coppola, a police spokesman, confirmed there is an investigation, but declined to elaborate, saying the department does not comment on ongoing internal investigations.
WBRZ-TV reported Wednesday that a BRPD officer has been accused of sending multiple texts with several racial slurs to someone outside the department.
One of the texts allegedly reads, “I wish someone would pull a Ferguson on them and take them out,” though it is unclear whom exactly the text refers to.
Another alleged text refers to someone who enjoys arresting “thugs” with “saggy pants.”
NAACP State President Ernest Johnson told WBRZ that the group will call for the resignation of the accused officer.
