An officer with the School Drug Task Force responded Thursday morning to a call concerning an unloaded gun at Broadmoor Middle School, 1225 Sharp Road, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

According to reports, an unnamed student reported seeing two other students with a gun at 8:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.

School administrators discovered the unloaded .25 caliber handgun in the booksack of a 15-year-old 8th grader who allegedly received it from a 13-year-old 7th grader, Hicks said.

Deputies will book both students with carrying of a firearm by a student on school property and they will be booked into Juvenile Detention, Hicks said.

No motive was given and any further questions concerning the students should be directed to the parish School Board, Hicks said.
