A 35-year-old Baton Rouge woman died late Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Blackwater Road north of Hooper Road, State Police reported.
Police identified the victim as Tasha Gross. It was unclear if she was the driver or passenger when the crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m.
A news release from State Police gave this account of the crash:
Gross and Marcus Castille, 42, of Baton Rouge, were traveling southbound on Blackwater Road in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle began to overturn on the roadway. The vehicle continued to overturn as it left the roadway and came to rest on its roof in a private driveway.
Both Gross and Castille were unrestrained at the time of the crash. Gross was ejected from the vehicle and received fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Castille was partially ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Gross and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Due to the severity of Castille’s injuries, a toxicology sample was unable to be taken.
The crash remains under investigation.
