Several fires were reported late Friday during an intense thunderstorm, including a tank fire at an oilfield storage area on Longwood Plantation Road, according to the St. George Fire Department.
Units were dispatched to the tank fire just after 8 p.m. and found one of five tanks engulfed in flames. In addition to St. George Fire Department, DEQ and HazMat units from the Baton Rouge Fire Department and the State Police were also on the scene. No liquid was leaking from the tank and air quality monitoring showed no danger to public, the Fire Department said in a news release.
Crews were allowing the fire to burn itself out to the point where they could extinguish it with foam.
It was not clear what caused the fire. There were no immediate details of other reported fires.
