A Baton Rouge woman who apparently dropped her unclothed infant while running between stores was arrested Sunday after police discovered drugs and paraphernalia in her car.

Christine Hussey, 31, and another woman “appeared to be on drugs,” outside the Race Trac gas station at 2330 O’Neal Lane at 4:19 p.m., according to a Baton Rouge Police report.

The baby was unclothed despite “how cold the weather was,” the report said. A witness told police Hussey dropped the child while running between the gas station convenience store and a nearby Dollar Tree, and the officer observed bruising on the baby’s eye and scratches on the infant’s face and legs, according to the document.

Police found a hypodermic needle in the vehicle Hussey occupied, along with Xanax, crystal meth and marijuana inside a pack of cigarettes, the report said.

Hussey, of 16243 Bristoe Ave., was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of cruelty to a juvenile, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana and Schedule II and IV drugs. Hussey’s companion, Brittney Graco, 31, of 8028 Carlton Roberts Blvd. in Denham Springs, was also booked on drug possession counts.

Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Coppola said authorities transported the baby to a local hospital and contacted child services.
