A Baton Rouge man is accused of pouring gasoline outside his ex-girlfriend’s Baker home and trying to set the building on fire while she was inside.

The victim told police that Leper Lewis, 54, was upset because she had recently broken up with him, according to the arrest report.

Lewis, whose lengthy criminal record includes simple arson, had threatened to kill the victim in the past, Baker police said.

On Saturday, Lewis poured gasoline on the doors and windows of the victim’s home and tried to set the house on fire with a cigarette lighter, police said.

Lewis, 2406 Shelley St., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated arson and public intimidation of a police officer.
