A Zachary woman died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday night on U.S. 61 north of La. 64 in East Baton Rouge Parish, officials said.
Around 8 p.m. Thursday, Joycelyn Tennart, 45, was traveling eastbound on West Flanacher Road in a 2001 Saturn car, Louisiana State Police said. At the same time, Marion Fuller, 71, was traveling southbound on U.S. 61 in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverardo.
For unknown reasons, Tennart failed to yield at the intersection and entered U.S. 61 southbound into the path of Fuller’s vehicle, State Police said. Tennart was struck on the driver’s side. The impact of the crash forced the two vehicles into the left lane of U.S. 61 southbound, hitting a 2012 GMC Acadia driven by a 16-year-old boy.
Tennart, was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. The other two drivers were wearing seat belts. They suffered moderate injuries, State Police said.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, State Police said. Toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis.
