A Texas man not wearing a seatbelt was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Pointe Coupee Parish Friday morning, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Devin R. Freeman, 21, of Roscoe, Texas, suffered fatal injuries around 2 a.m. after the 2011 Toyota Camry he was driving struck the rear of an 18-wheeler driven by 47-year-old Derrick L. Hall, of Baker, according to a news release from Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee of Troop A.
Both vehicles were traveling westbound on US 190 near the intersection of LA 1. Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee wrote.
Speed and impairment for Freeman are possible factors in the crash, according to Lee’s statement. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, but impairment is not suspected for Hall, who was wearing a seatbelt, Lee wrote.
