The body of a teenager who drowned Sunday afternoon in a Geismar subdivision pond was recovered several hours after he disappeared, said Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Col. Bobby Webre.
Ascension Parish Boat Patrol and the Gonzales Dive Team found the body of Malcolm Calloway, 17, of Sunshine, at about 7:30 p.m. in a Parks of Dutchtown Subdivision pond near the area where Calloway and his friends first dived in, Webre said.
Calloway was visiting a friend who lives in the subdivision when the two decided to go swimming.
Deputies were dispatched at about 4 p.m to the pond where Calloway disappeared underwater and never resurfaced.
The pond is about 16 feet at its deepest point, Webre said.
Webre thanked all agencies who helped with search and neighbors who assisted family members at the scene.
