A Baton Rouge man armed with a handgun Monday morning forced his ex-girfriend to drive her empty school bus from her residence almost six miles to his home on Billops Street, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Jock Jones, 37, 4159 Billops St., released her as police were arriving, but barricaded himself in his house for several minutes until he finally surrendered without incident around 9:20 a.m., Coppola said. The residence, though, is two short blocks from Capitol Elementary School, prompting the police, as a precaution, to order a lockdown at the school for about an hour until the situation was resolved, Coppola said.

Jones is being booked into Parish Prison on counts of aggravated kidnapping, illegal possession of a weapon and carjacking, Coppola said.

The incident started around 6:30 a.m. at the 4000 block of Hillmont Drive in the Park Forest area when Jones showed up at the house of the victim, an East Baton Rouge Parish school bus driver, and forced her drive him to his residence, Coppola said. She had yet to start her routes, so no children were on board on the bus, he said.

Police were alerted to the incident by a witness and learned that the victim might have been taken to the Billops Street location, Coppola said.
