A long-distance truck driver from Denham Springs and New Iberia was found dead in Davenport, Iowa, on Monday morning.
Davenport Police said Tuesday they are investigating the death of Chuck Olivier, 47, as a homicide.
Police said Olivier was discovered inside a vehicle at a Flying J Travel Center parking lot in Davenport, Iowa, about 160 miles east of Des Moines.
Officers had been called to the Flying J shortly before noon in reference to an unresponsive person in a vehicle. Olivier was pronounced dead on scene, police said.
Police have not disclosed the cause of death, saying an autopsy has been scheduled.
Olivier’s ex-wife, Miranda Lee, of Denham Springs, said detectives told her he suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was discovered in his truck. He was en route to Muscatine, Iowa, when he was killed, she said.
Lee said Olivier had been living in New Iberia for the past year. Prior to the couple’s divorce, Lee said they lived together in Denham Springs with their 12-year-old son.
Lee said she and Olivier remained friends after the divorce, and she last heard from him Saturday night. Lee said her ex-husband went to dinner with another truck driver and then texted her to call him. But when she tried to reach him the next morning, he did not pick up, she said.
“Sunday night, when nighttime came, it just didn’t seem right,” she said. “Something went wrong after that dinner.”
Lee said Olivier had been a truck driver for 25 years and usually transported chemicals.
She described Olivier as a hard worker and excellent father. She said he would take their son on the road with him each summer.
