Man shot to death in nightclub fight

An early morning fight at a Greenwell Springs Road nightclub led to the shooting death of a 28-year-old man, police spokesman Sgt. Don Stone said.

A woman was shot and wounded in the incident, and another man’s cellphone was shot off his hip, Stone said.

Police responded to Club Tri-Ambient, 6105 Greenwell Springs Road, just before 2 a.m. Thursday to investigate the shooting, Stone said.

Police found Arthur Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound, Stone said. Johnson was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The woman and other man left the club to go to the hospital before police arrived, Stone said. The woman’s injuries are nonlife-threatening, Stone said, and the man was not injured.

The fight began inside the club and involved Johnson and the shooter, who has not been identified, Stone said. Once outside the club, the shooter fired several shots, striking Johnson and the woman, Stone said.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact police at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Man on bicycle killed in hit-run on La. 946

A 60-year-old man was killed Wednesday when he was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on La. 946 west of La. 37, a State Police spokesman said in a news release.

Floyd Jones, of Baton Rouge, was riding the bicycle at about 10 p.m. in the outside eastbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, said Russell Graham, a State Police spokesman, in the release.

Jones was thrown off the bicycle and taken to a local hospital where he later died, Graham said.

Joe Dabney, 49, the man driving the 2006 Ford F-150 that hit Jones, fled, Graham said.

A witness followed Dabney to a home on Linstrom Drive and contacted authorities, who arrested Dabney and booked him into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of vehicular homicide, first-offense DWI, and felony hit-and-run, Graham said.
