A 23-year-old man was shot to death in the driveway of a home on Fairchild Street in Baton Rouge Saturday afternoon when someone ran up to him, opened fire and then ran off, police said.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Lt. Johnny Dunnam identified the victim late Saturday as Ryan Armwood. He said he was shot multiple times in the incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m.

Homicide detectives were working the scene but had no suspect or motive as of late Saturday, said Dunnam, who added the victim was shot multiple times.

An hour after the shooting, the victim’s body could still be seen lying on his back at the end of the driveway wearing black pants, a short-sleeved black shirt and tennis shoes. More than 50 people gathered around the scene around dusk, many wailing and crying.

Keon Preston, founder of Together We Stand, Divided We Fall, prayed over the victim’s family.

Neighbor Abbriel Burrell said the victim lived one unit over from her with his mother and that he had a girlfriend of two months who was also at the scene. The victim had no children, she said.

Burrell said he was well-known in the neighborhood and that he liked to listen to music.

“Everyone knew who he was,” she said. “He was a cool dude. I never saw him get into it with anybody.”

This death comes one month after a woman was arrested in the shooting death of her boyfriend down the street in the 1600 block of Fairchild Street.
