Sheriff’s deputies on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man accused of firing multiple gunshots in late May at a Prescott Road home with several children inside.

Montrell D. Shelton, of Baton Rouge, shot the home in the 7700 block of Prescott Road around 2 a.m. on May 28, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Six people, including four children, were inside the home when it was struck by gunfire. Several bullets entered the home’s living room, but the report does not say any people were struck.

Detectives later learned Shelton was involved in an ongoing dispute with one of the home’s residents.

Shelton, of 7164 South Fairlane Court, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on six counts of attempted first-degree murder, and once count each of illegal use of a weapon, assault by drive-by shooting and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Shelton’s bail was set at $335,000. He remained jailed as of Tuesday evening.
