The cause of a fire that destroyed nearly half of a north Baton Rouge home is believed to be arson, officials said.

The home, in the 10300 block of Elm Grove Garden Drive, caught fire around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said in a news release. Nearly half of the home, just west of Baton Rouge Metro Airport, was destroyed before the fire was brought under control around 9:40 p.m. Seven fire department vehicles responded to the scene.

Three people live in the residence, but no one was home at the time of the fire, Monte said.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call investigators at (225) 354-1419.
