State Police said a 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when his bike became airborne after driving onto an embankment alongside La. 22 in Livingston Parish.
Troopers believe Irvin Lachney, of Maurepas, was speeding east on La. 22 near La. 16 on a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle when he drove into the wrong lane and through a ditch before hitting the embankment just before 6:45 p.m., Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said. Investigators believe Lachney’s “excessive speed” was a factor in the crash.
Lachney, who had been wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle after it became airborne. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, where he died of his injuries, Sandifer said.
Intoxication is not thought to be a factor, and no other cars were involved.
