Baton Rouge police arrested a 34-year-old man who left his small child unattended Saturday afternoon in BREC’s North Sherwood Forest Community Park after he injected heroin and passed out inside a pickup truck, police said.
Police officers responding to a call about a child playing alone in the park found William Russell, of 10363 White Oak Drive, passed out in the truck along with another man, Jonathan Temple, a Baton Rouge police report says.
When officers woke Russell and asked him whether he knew where his child was, he told them, “I don’t know,” according to the report.
Emergency Medical Services arrived to check on both Russell and the child, the report says, and officers contacted the Department of Children and Family Services about the incident.
Officers booked Russell into Parish Prison on one count of child desertion.
Temple, the second man who was also passed out in the pickup, according to the report, was wanted by authorities on an unspecified count and was also booked into Parish Prison Saturday.
