Ten children and two adults escaped unharmed Monday from an apartment fire on Titian Avenue, a Fire Department spokesman said.
When firefighters arrived at the apartment building at 6848 Titian Ave., at about 10:30 a.m., they found flames shooting from apartment 11, which is the one that the 10 children and two adults had escaped from before firefighters arrived, said Curt Monte, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.
The fire was contained to that apartment. Damage to the apartment and its contents was estimated at $40,000, Monte said.
One firefighter was treated by Emergency Medical Services at the scene for possible dehydration and taken to a hospital for observation, Monte said. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
