The blaze that destroyed a home at 9450 Wild Valley Tuesday night got so hot a neighbor’s vehicle and boat ignited, but firefighters managed to keep it from spreading to nearby homes, and no one was injured, the Baton Rouge Fire Department announced.

“During the initial attack, firefighters had to retreat from the home due to fear of roof collapse,” department spokesman Curt Monte said.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 10:02 p.m., deploying four pumper trucks, one ladder truck and two support vehicles, and it took an hour to get the fire under control, he said.

Cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, but it started in the carport with flames extending through the roof of the structure, Monte said.

The house and contents — valued at a combined $325,000 — are a total loss, he said.
