A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on a rural road in St. Helena Parish on Christmas Eve, a State Police official said.

Kristi Allen, 35, of Kentwood, was walking in the westbound lane of La. 38 just west of La. 1050 near Kentwood about 11 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Mustang traveling in the same direction, said State Police Trooper Dustin Dwight. The driver, Tanya Crowe, 22, of Amite, was tested for alcohol, but a breath sample showed no signs of impairment, Dwight said.

Allen was transported to St. Helena Parish Hospital in critical condition but died shortly after arrival, he said.

The crash scene is in a rural area without street lights, Dwight said. There was a light rain at the time of the incident, he said.

Blood samples from Allen will be sent to the State Police crime lab for analysis.
