A fire Sunday at the Old Goodwood Landing complex caused $175,000 in damage, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Eleven units were called to the two-alarm fire at 7:01 p.m. at 7744 LaSalle Ave. When they arrived six minutes later, flames were shooting through the roof of one unit in the four-plex, the news release says.

As they began to attack the blaze, firefighters found a resident on an outside stairwell. It appeared the resident had fallen while trying to escape. Firefighters assisted the person to safety.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 8:53 p.m., the news release says.

The fire damage was contained to the apartment of origin with the other three units receiving heavy smoke and water damage.

The cause of this fire has not yet been determined, but foul play is not suspected at this time, the Fire Department says.
