A Walker man was killed late Monday in Livingston Parish when the vehicle he was driving left the road and rolled over several times, according to State Police. A passenger survived the crash with moderate injuries.
Garrett Minard, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 11:30 p.m. on La. 1019 east of La. 16.
State Police gave this account of the crash:
Minard was driving a 2013 Kia Optima eastbound on La 1019. As Minard entered a right-hand curve, the Kia ran off the roadway to the left, rolling several times before coming to rest in a ditch.
Police said impairment is a possible factor, and a toxicology sample taken from Minard was submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Neither Minard nor a 22-year-old male passenger in the Kia were wearing seat belts, State Police said. The passenger was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with what were described as moderate injuries.
