Deputies are searching for the woman who walked into the post office in Sorrento on Tuesday morning to buy stamps, pulled out what appeared to be a handgun in a robbery attempt and sprayed the clerk in the face with pepper spray.
The “handgun” actually was a water gun filled with pepper spray, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. Post Office at 8213 John Leblanc Blvd., where the assailant had asked the clerk for stamps, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
When the clerk handed over the stamps, the woman, who was wearing a “security-type” uniform with a long coat and gloves, pulled out the weapon, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (235) 621-4636.
