Baton Rouge police arrested a 49-year-old Zachary man who shot a woman in the abdomen while aiming at another man, according to a report.
James Anthony Johnson Jr., of 4840 Rollins Road, got in a fight Feb. 11 with an unidentified man in the front yard of a house on Myrtle Street, a Baton Rouge police report says.
During the fight, the other man picked up a brick and began advancing toward Johnson, the report says.
Johnson pulled out a small-caliber revolver and tried to reach around a woman who was attempting to separate the men, the report says.
But when Johnson fired at the other man, he missed and shot the woman instead, the report says.
Johnson fled the scene in his car, according to the report.
Witnesses and the victim told police similar accounts of the shooting and identified Johnson as the shooter when presented with a six-person photo lineup, the report says.
Johnson pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder in March 2009, the report notes, and remains on parole until 2018 for a separate conviction for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Police arrested and booked Johnson into Parish Prison Wednesday on counts of negligent injuring, illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. His bail is set at $60,000.
