Valero gas station robbed by armed man _lowres

Baton Rouge police are investigating the Monday night armed robbery of a gas station just south of LSU’s campus on Highland Road.

A man armed with a silver handgun was caught on surveillance video robbing the Valero EZ Stop Express around 8:30 p.m., Baton Rouge police said.

The man entered the store and approached the front counter with some merchandise, including what appeared to be a bottle of red Gatorade, while posing as a customer, Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a police spokesman, said.

While the employee completed the sale, the man pulled out the silver gun and demanded money from the register, Coppola said.

The man obtained “an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot,” Coppola said.

Police described the robber as a 5 feet 8 inch to 5 feet 10 inch tall black man with a medium build, who was wearing a black jacket over a white T-shirt, black plants and a black Chicago White Sox baseball cap during the heist, Coppola said.

There were no reported injuries resulting from the robbery, Coppola said.

Police asked anyone with information on the identify of the alleged robber to call the department’s armed robbery division at (225) 389-3845 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
