An Amite woman has been arrested on a count of second-degree murder in the death of sister who disappeared last month and whose body was later discovered in a shallow grave in a wooded area of the parish, the St. Helena Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook Friday.
Deborah Palmer, 38, of Amite, was booked Friday into the St. Helena Parish jail on a count of second-degree murder and more arrests are expected, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Rebecca Blades, 35, Palmer's sister, had been reported missing by her father on May 10, the sheriff's Chief of Operations Michael Martin said. A woman's body was found on Mother's Day in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind some houses off Anderson Road in the parish. The body was later identified as Blades.
The Sheriff's Office said there will likely be more arrests made.
