A 19-year-old Franklinton man was killed early Friday after his car went off La. 38 in northern St. Helena Parish and hit a tree, Louisiana State Police said.

Hunter Michael McGregor went through a curve on La. 38 north of La. 10 shortly after midnight, went off the right side of the westbound lane and over-corrected, troopers said in a statement Friday. The 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt then went into a spin back through the eastbound lane and into a ditch, flipping over and hitting a tree, troopers said.

McGregor, who was wearing his seat belt, had severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office.

Troopers said they do not suspect impairment was a factor in the crash but took blood samples for analysis at the State Police Crime Lab.
