A residential fire that broke out Friday at 6898 Lacey Ave. caused more than $175,000 in damage before it was put out, the Baton Rouge Fire Department reported.
Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said investigators believe the blaze originated in the carport or utility room, then reached the attic before spreading through the rest of the residence.
Firefighters summoned at 2:37 p.m. arrived at the scene at 2:44 p.m. to find 75 percent of the house ablaze and flames shooting through the roof, Combs said. The fire was brought under control by about 3:44 p.m., Combs said.
Combs said firefighters consider the structure lost.
The occupant of the house, Combs said, received medical treatment from Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services paramedics after complaining of a burning feeling in the face.
